06.19.08 - at home after her first visit with Dr. C
It was time again for us to take Cassie in for a visit with Dr. C today, this time for her 1 year well check up. Sometimes I can't help but wonder if people think we're dorks because we both enjoy going to her visits? I will never forget our experience as new parents when we had to take Cassie in for her very first checkup. First of all, we were running late that morning, are you surprised? And as we were leaving the house, we realized that we didn't have one of those formula dispenser thingamajigs so we ended up having to pack the entire container of formula in the diaper bag. So we finally arrived at the clinic and were led into the examination room to wait for Dr. C. It was freezing cold in the room and the nurse asked us to undress Cassie until Dr. C arrived. Great, we forgot a blanket and of course we blamed each other the entire time for not remembering to bring it. So in an effort to keep her warm we used a burp cloth of all things. Super parents huh? And then, it was time to make Cassie a bottle. We were trying to hurry and not get caught with our giant can of Enfamil formula because we didn't want to look silly, or even worse, unprepared. I will never forget this part because we laughed so ridiculously hard that I can clearly remember my very fresh c-section incision start to hurt from all of the laughing. Looking back, I'm not exactly sure what we were afraid of. Maybe that Dr. C would think that we were unfit parents and try to take our baby away? I'm not sure. Anyway, it's one of my first experiences where I thought to myself, wow, this is real, my little Cassie is here, and she is in so much trouble with parents like us!
So back to my real reason for this post, Cassie's check up went really well today. She weighs 21 pounds & 4 ounces and is 29.25 inches tall. I thought for sure she would be a tad chunkier since she's been eating so much lately. I was surprised and even a bit worried that she didn't gain enough weight from her March visit but Dr. C assured us that she looked great and even commented that Cassie's thighs look far from malnourished :-) Dr. C was also impressed with CB's vocabulary. She said the amount of words Cassie knows is usually expected at 18 months old. I can't help my child is a genius! I kid, I kid, besides don't all parents think that their kid is a genius?
And after the fun visit with Dr. C came time for the dreaded vaccinations! Oh how I loathe these! She had to get three this time but Papa & Lollie were there to soothe her while I got the bottle ready....except this time without reaching for a giant canister of Enfamil from the diaper bag. Oh how Chris and I have learned so much this past year......
